How long will it take to finish?
Typically a normal driveway will take a couple of days. We will arrive to wash the driveway usually in the morning, allow it to dry, and come back later in the day for the cracks/repairs. We then come back the next morning to complete the sealing. As with most things, proper prep is essential to quality work.
Our motto is, "If you want it done fast, call the other guys. If you want it to last, call us."
How soon before I can drive on it?
Manufacturer recommendation is 24 hrs before driving on most sealers. However, drying and curing are completely different. Sealer can be walked on with foot traffic as soon as it is dry, usually within an hour or two in the sun. The full cure of sealer can take up to a couple of weeks, depending on factors such as ambient temperature, and direct sunlight.
How long will it last?
Sealer should be expected to last 3-5 years, depending on usage. Factors that can increase wear on sealer include the amount of traffic, hills or inclines (increased slipping or skidding), and plowing practices.
What type of sealer do you use?
We use a commercial grade asphalt emulsion type sealer, that is not available to buy in department stores. It is a blend of asphalt oils, minerals, polymers, and other solids suspended in a water base. Emulsion type sealer is the premium choice, however many contractors do not use it, as it requires more expensive equipment to keep the sealer mixed, where other sealers do not. Emulsion sealer is non-toxic, non flammable, and is never slippery once applied. Unlike some other shiny drying sealers, emulsion sealer dries an even matte finish, which looks remarkably like new asphalt.
